Der Maler und Schriftsteller Fritz Matthies-Masuren (1873-1938), der sich seit den frühen 1890er Jahren intensiv mit der Fotografie auseinandergesetzt hat, war ein engagierter Förderer der internationalen Kunstund Amateurfotografie in Deutschland. Im Zuge der kontinuierlichen Erschließung der Sammlung Fotografie der Kunstbibliothek wurde erstmals die Fotosammlung von Matthies- Masuren gesichtet und in einem Katalog zusammengeführt.
